How can we qualify to play in the tournament? |
As far as qualifying, there are a number of ways, usually at championship tournaments
These include:
State Championships
Regional Championships
National Qualifier Tournaments
All teams that have not qualified for an USA / ASA Junior Olympics Girls’ Class A Fast Pitch National Championship are eligible to qualify through their local association
There may also be other ways to qualify. You should check with your local J.O. Commissioner to find out the whens, wheres and hows. |
Do the teams have to be present at registration? |
Yes. Each team member must be present to verify their credentials in person. If a team member arrives after the team has been registered, she may be registered individually. She must be registered before she can participate in any game. |
Should the teams wear their uniforms to the opening ceremonies? |
Yes. There will be a “grand entrance”, group photos, etc. |
What is the purpose/need for the two pool games? |
A.S.A. has tried a number of formats over the years to best satisfy the participating teams. A straight double-elimination tournament would have many teams spending the time, effort, and money to play two games and go home. Then, a modified 3-game guarantee was tried that didn’t prove very popular with the teams. Finally, A.S.A. went back to the original tried-and-true four game guarantee double elimination format. We start play on Tuesday the 28th, and no one is eliminated before Friday, July 31. |
How do the draws work? |
There will be two drawings: one for scheduling the pool play games; this drawing will be held prior to the start of the tournament so that teams will know the schedule for their first two games. The second drawing for placement in the double-elimination brackets will be held on Wednesday after completion of play. Please see the Coaches' Corner for more details. |
Does this tournament qualify teams for further tournaments? |
Yes, the top two teams from this tournament automatically qualify for next year’s 14A or 16A USA / ASA National Championship. (see ASA code for exact criteria). |
Why should we pre-order souvenirs and passes? |
There are three good reasons to pre-order souvenirs and passes:
- You will receive a 10% discount on all items ordered and paid for prior to your arrival at the tournament;
- Your order will be waiting for you when your team checks in;
- You avoid the risk of certain items or sizes being sold out when you arrive.
