BOB LAMA

TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR

 

 

A.S.A. umpire for 10 years (1991-2001). Also served as District 15 U.I.C. for a number of years. 17 years’ experience as tournament director of A.S.A. (exclusively) tournaments. Began and still runs two tournaments in the Skagit Valley- a year-end adult slowpitch event, and the International Youth Challenge fastpitch tournament (top Canadian teams in 5 age groups vie against top teams from the Northwest). The IYC has been played for 16 consecutive years.

 

Bob served as Deputy Tournament Director of the 12U B Western National in 2001 and 2005 and is serving as Tournament Director for the 2009 14A Western National Championship. He also served on the Tournament Committee for the 136-team 16A National held in Seattle in 2006.

 

 

 

TOURNAMENT CHAIRMAN

MIKE McCARTHY

 

Fifteen years as an (exclusively) A.S.A. umpire, with the exception of National Federation umpiring for high schools. He has umpired in excess of 2,000 games, both fastpitch and slowpitch.

Umpiring includes:

2000 Western National Fastpitch Championship
3 Regional Fastpitch Championships
11 A.S.A. State Championships, both fastpitch and slowpitch
Washington State High School Fastpitch Championships
He has umpired twice at the Canada Cup Special Olympics Softball Tournament- once as the only U.S. umpire working the S.O. portion of the tournament.

Umpiring training includes:

1998 Advanced National School (fastpitch) in Oklahoma City
Numerous other National Schools


Service includes 12 years on the Board of Directors- Skagit Valley Softball Umpires Association, 6 years as president.

Served as Chairman of the 2000 Regional Umpires’ Clinic held in the Skagit Valley (Region 15)

Currently Serving as Chairman, Skagit Championship Sports and as Tournament Chairman for the 2009 14A Western National Fastpitch Championship.

Currently Serving as President of The Board of Directors for The Sedro-Woolley Playfields Association

Served as Tournament Chairman for:

2001 12B Western National Fastpitch Championships
2005 12B Western National Fastpitch Championships

Served as Tournament Director and/or UIC for many local invitational tournaments- both fastpitch and slowpitch.

Currently in the process of writing a book about softball (Title- “There’s Nothing Soft About A Softball”)

 

 

TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR EMERITUS

“WILD BILL” SILVES

 

Bill “Wild Bill” Silves was elected to fill the Northwest Region (15) UIC position in January 2004. He has been an ASA umpire since 1969. Bill served as UIC for Seattle Metro for 7 years and has been elected to the Seattle Softball Hall of Fame. He is also a member of the A.S.A. National Indicator Fraternity.

 

His training is broad-based ranging from attendance at a Major League Baseball Umpire School in 1966, to coordinating the ASA National Umpire School in Seattle. He has served as a clinician for ASA national schools 9 times and at the Advanced Fast pitch school 2 times. He has served as a clinician in schools and clinics in Canada 3 times.

 

He has umpired at the highest levels, including both the Men’s Major Fast Pitch 3 times and Women’s Major Fast Pitch 1 time. He has worked at the Canada Cup 3 times, in Vancouver, British Columbia. He has been the tournament director for 3 nationals and umpire coordinator for 1 and UIC for 9 national tournaments. Bill is retired after a 32-year career with Safeway, and he and his wife Chris live in Mt. Vernon, WA.

 

 

DEPUTY TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR

BOB “MR. PEEPERS” JAMES

 

Bob has been a registered A.S.A. umpire for 25 years and is a member of the National Indicator Fraternity as well as a gold-level member of the National Medals Program.

 

As a lifetime member of the Skagit Valley Softball Umpires Association, he has served almost continuously on the Board of Directors- filling nearly all of the positions, and has served as President for a number of terms over the years.

 

Bob has umpired in 5 National Tournaments:

1995 Men’s 50 and over slowpitch national

2001 Women’s “C” slowpitch national

2002 Women’s “D” slowpitch national

2003 Men’s 45 and over national

2006 16U “A” Fastpitch national

 

He served as the assistant director of the 2000 Men’s 45 and over slowpitch national, served as Umpire Coordinator and Deputy Director of the 2001 12B Western National Championship and Deputy Director of the 2005 12B Western National Championship. He will be serving as Deputy Director of the 2009 14A Western National Championship.
